@mattwasho

those are micro switches. You can test them by connecting the black and red leads from a multimeter to the contacts on either side of the switch. (If you can post a better /clearere picture from both side of the board we can show you where the contacts are precisely.) Use an analog meter, set your multimeter to something like OhmX1K. When the contact closes an analog meters needle will move to the other end of the scale. That shows the switch is closed. The reverse is tru for an open switch.. The needle will move to 0 on the scale.

I’ve marked a couple of the switches on the backside of your through-the-hole circuit board. Each switch has two contacts. set your meter to the before mentioned ohm scale and touch teh two contacts. Needle moves teh witch is closed, push to open needle should go back to zero. If it is a normally open switch then the needle will be at 0 until you push the sitch to close the circuit. the needle will then move. Either way, if the needle of an analog meter moves while activationg the switch, it is working. You can test all of your switches that way.

exactly how does that ribbon cable detach from the board?

See the pics. I posted as an answer sorry.

Is their a trick to detaching the board from the ribbon cable doesn't seem to want to come off?

- de

Post some good pictures so we can see how it is attached. If it does not come off easily form the control board see if it is easier on the other end.

- de

Appears as if it is connected permanently to the board but the other end came right off.
