Turns on show apple logo and loading bar then cuts off

hi, I am mainly a phone repair store but usually will take a look at any electronics people bring in. today i was brought a iMac emc 2389 and when i turn it on it shows the apple logo with a loading bar, the fans seem to spin at max rpm and the bar makes it to halfway before the machine turns itself off and then restarts. i tested the psu and it gets 12v on pin 4 and 4.6v on pin 6, so im thinking the psu is still working. the 4 troubleshooting leds all illuminate. so im just looking for some advice on what i can check next. like i said im focused on phone repair so i dont have alot of experience working with macs, i know how to solder and read schematics just not sure where i should even start on this one.

Well, you should start by making a PRAM reset and a SMC reset.

PRAM reset:

- With the iMac turn off: Press Cmnd, Option, P and R Keys while starting the Mac, release the power button but continue pressing the other keys. (you have to make sure you get those keys pressed before the gray screen comes up or it won’t work.)

- It will start and chime, then it will reset, keep pressing for 2 chimes and release all.

If the Problem continues do the SMC reset:

- Shut down your Mac

- Disconnect the power cord

- Press and hold the Mac’s power button for 5 seconds

- Release the button

- Reattach the power cables and boot the Mac as usual

If the problem persist you might need to run the apple diagnostic online:

- Power on the iMac and immediately press and hold D.

- Follow the on-screen instructiosn

Really helpful. Did a PRAM reset thanks to the idiotproof instructions and my Mac restarted after many unsuccessful attempts. Thank you!
