Adaptor for MacBook Pro A1708 SSD

Hi.

Anyone know where to find correct adaptor for internal SSD for a MBP A1708.

Mainboard had water damage, and need to save some files from harddrive.

Best Anders

Hi. Have you solved the problem? I also need to copy the data from the SSD.

Hi, I too am on the hunt for such an adapter. Let me know if you have any leads.

Solución Elegida

To date, no one that I have been able to locate has an external enclosure for this model.

Here’s the only thing I have found for data recovery

Apple Customer Data Migration Tool Kit 076-00236 for MacBook Pro 2016-2017

Here’s the skinny on it:

https://9to5mac.com/2016/11/24/apple-spe...

Here’s where to buy one:

If you can’t find a shop with one, you can always buy it, use it, then try to resell it

This is not the solution for these models. What you link to here is for the models with onboard SSD which can be accessed via lifeboat connector that you link to.

Sorry to say there is none by any 3rd party presently ;-{

The best you can do is to find a friend with a Fn model to swap out the drives so you can then copy off the data to an external drive.

The other path is to go to an Apple Store see if the can help you. They may try to convince you into buying a new system and having them swap over the drives (if its not damaged).

Hi Dan,

Thanks for answer.

Any idea as to how long it usually takes before 3rd party adaptors are available for MBP models?

Found this MacBook Pro A1708 PCIe SSD Recovery Adapter Smart $399.00

@Robert Lee - Wow! Way to expensive! But if you cant borrow a friends system to salvage your data I guess you have no choice. Best to setup a backup system and use it as it will be best solution over time and be cheaper! It also is only offering the slower USB3 connection Vs the better being USB-C.

Bummer, I’m in the same boat you are Anders. I don’t think Myers’ solution applies to the A1708 because it has the PCIe NVMe SSD card in it. But I did learn something very useful I know I’ll need the migration tool for the A1707 in the future and already came up as needing data but then customer found some on the cloud and was good. Nevertheless, all my searches came up empty for an adapter for the PCIe NVMe SSD.

I’m surprised OWC hasn’t made one yet.

But then again, they’ve kinda fallen off the ball in the last few years. Took them forever to make a Thunderbolt SSD enclosure.
