Using Lipo Charger to directly power android tablet

My android tablet suddenly died on me and refuses to power up. Unable to charge the battery as well.

Am thinking of removing the battery from the tablet and then hooking up a lipo charger to the black and red wires on the circuit board. Hopefully this can power it on directly without the battery.

This is a simple and inexpensive lipo charger I'm looking at:

Few concerns that I have:

  • Can the lipo charger be used as a direct power supply? I know voltage-wise, it's safe (3.7V). But I'm not sure if circuitry-wise, a charger works the same way as a power supply
  • Is 500mA current output from the charger enough to power on the tablet? If not, what is the recommended current output?
  • How do I know if the tablet has any logic to detect the presence of a battery? From what I see on the circuit board, there are only 2 black+red connectors (no data connector or anything)

Hey dettol,

I would not recommend pulling the battery out from your phone and charging it. This could result in toxic gases being released, flames, or even an explosion (with shrapnel!). If you were to provide us with the make/model of your tablet, we could help to diagnose other problems with your tablet.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Tanner. It's actually a viewing panel of my digital door viewer. Essentially a striped down Android tablet. Here's the link:

I'll update my answer as soon as I get a chance to research this more!

The batteries in tablets (and most other devices) are lithium ion, not Lithium-polymer. By attempting to charge using a lipo charger, you are risking a fire, which will cause damage. I reccomend that you replace the battery, as that would be the safest route. I can help you find a replacement battery, I just meed the make and model of your tablet.

Thanks!

Also you can try doing a hard reset. My tablet has done this before, I hard reset it and it is still working today!

Hard reset did not work for me unfortunately. Btw here're the pics of how the battery and the mainboard look like:

Thing is - I'm not sure if the problem lies with the battery or the mainboard. Any suggestion on how to troubleshoot?
