i recently installed a brand new battery in my tablet & it started smoking. I took it out & put the old one back in (which worked but had a short life) now the tablet wont even turn on. did i burn out my mother board?

@mamabearcat sure sounds like something got short circuited. To give you more of an idea we would probably need to see your board. You'd have to remove all EMI shields and post some good images of the front and back side. Post those with your question. Use this guide Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente for that. I'd start by checking things according to the flowchart for the No-Power-situation.pdf Let us know what you find.
The other thing you want to try is another new battery....
