You system has a MXM slot for a custom video card. Its either a ATI Radeon HD 5670 w/512 MB video RAM (Apple P/N 661-5578) or a ATI Radeon HD 5750 w/1 GB video RAM (Apple P/N 661-5579). Apple never offered anything larger for this series and you need to use their board as it has custom firmware.

@danj Hmmm. Is there any way to install the custom firmware to a different MXM?

- de

I currently have a ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB.

You still have a limit on what boards you can use. Between what Apple has drivers for and the heat sink needs to fit.

- de

That why I’m asking on this what’s the highest card that it will take. What drivers does Apple have and what to those drivers work on.

- de

The card is a fixed size (check the link I gave you) The Drivers are based on what Apple sold. Look at EveryMac at the different boards. You'll need to open your system to measure it. I don't force fit other MXM boards on the most part.
