Epson XP-235 Ink Carriage Will Not Move Over To Replace Cartridge

Hi, To replace the ink cartridge on my Epson XP-235, I have to hold the "stop" button in for 6 seconds for the carriage to move over. However, it just will not budge. Nothing happens. At all. Whatsoever. Yet the printer is otherwise fine. I tried switching it off and on again - the carriage moves no problem when starting up, going through its process as it does when you switch the printer on. The carriage comes to rest at the far right of the printer, then just will NOT move when I hold in the "stop" button to replace the ink. Ive not had it that long - been searching for the receipt this morning as it may even still be under warranty, but I cant find the receipt. There's no rhyme nor reason for this issue - its not been knocked or anything and I had no problem last week when I changed one of the other colours (I always use Epson original inks). I read somewhere to try unplugging the printer and move the carriage manually, but it doesn't move manually. Any and all help will be very much appreciated. thanking you all in advance.......

THANKS!!!!! Don't look now why it's not more intuitive. Did not know about holding the stop button.

Holding "Stop" didn't work for me. I solved this by pressing "Start" and hitting "Stop" just as the carriage moved back into the open space.

Solución Elegida

Thankyou for your reply. My husband had a look at it this evening. He logged into his account on the computer and the printer behaved perfectly, no problem at all, making me look a complete liar ....... ????? Very peculiar. Upshot is that the ink has now been changed and happily printing with no issues. Will be interesting to see what happens when the next cartridge needs replacing. Hopefullly I wont be back here.......

Hi! This is a longshot since your original post was over a year ago, but I also have this problem. It is hit-or-miss. I have been able to solve in the past, by pure luck but can not remember what I did to fix. I am having this problem again and can not solve it, turning off, unplugging... nothing is working and I do not have a "stop" button on my printer. Has this issue happened to you again, and if so, how did you fix the problem? TY

@boss_lady Hi Amber - only just found your post - so sorry! I hope you've now resolved your issues. Funnily enough I am back here with the same problem and about to say the same as you then realised the original post was by ME in the first place! So Im going to try the same thing again, log into my husbands account on the computer and see if that makes a difference. I obviously have had no issues since the last time until now. Ive been able to change cartridges as per normal on my own account without issues then BAM!!! Deja Vu. I find myself back on my own post from years ago! Ugh! Just for future reference, its now July 2019 LOL......

when you hold the stop button 6 secs the head will move, release the stop button and press it once the head may move to the leftt then press it once again it should move to the far left you may have to press it three times, also if you are using resetable carts or copies epson will tell you are using copies and you hve to click continue for the printer to work this is on your pc screen

Thank You! It works on my WF-2010

Worked for me too! Thank you so much! No help from Epson. Don't take phone calls at support and didn't have my printer series as an option online. Couldn't even send an email!

And it worked for me too!

I've had my Epson XP 247 for a few years and changing the ink cartridge has always been hit-and-miss: depends on what mood the printer is in I think.

Anyway, it was up to its old tricks again just now but this time I found a solution

- THANK YOU!!!

Try unplugging it when the carriage moves to the correct position instead of moving it manually.

Hi, I just had the same problem, the Ink cartridge was locked in since the white plastic lock didn’t wanna budge.

I was able to get the plastic lock to go down by manually turning one of the small white threaded wheels on the opposite side of the ink cartridges using my finger, it seems to control the lock.

That being said I still have my 0x9A error but at least I can get my ink out
