Atari 2600 displays no picture or sound

Hello all, I am having some trouble with my atari 2600. I connect it to my television with an rca to coax adapter. I am not getting any sound, and it is outputting some video, but it is usually just a series of lines, a black screen, or some objects flashing across the screen; it is different depending on the game that I try. My first thought is to replace the RCA cable. I am pretty handy with a soldering iron, and if it is something with the board, I would like to repair it myself. Any suggestions on where to start? Thanks!

EDIT: I have already cleaned the cartridge slot, and I don't think it is the RF module because I am getting some signal

@baron623 just to make sure, you do have the TV set to either channel 2-4? Yes replacing the cable with a known-good one will be a perfect start.

@baron623 Once you exchanged the cable and ensured that you are on the proper stations on the TV you are using but still have the same issue, you will have to dig into the guts of your console. This ATARI 2600/2600A VCS Domestic Field Service Manual; FD100133, Rev.02 will definitely help you with it. Remember that after all you are dealing with a console that is anywhere between 30 and 40 years old so components like capacitors may have dried out and solder whiskers may have developed. Great Console and I do hope you keep it going.
