Can I glue the home button to the metal bracket? Will it function?

Reason why I want to do this, is because I dont have a lot of money to spend on a replacement screen and have actually been burned on a cheap £25 one, which has terrible ghosting/motion blur and also has phantom touches after some use, the seller has refunded me 30% and let me keep the screen so theres that.

But I am so annoyed and frustrated by these issues that I'm strongly considering going back to my old screen, which while cracked and missing glass around the home button (allowing it to move and pull up out of its space) worked fine and had no screen/digitizer damage.

This is why I want to know if I can safely super glue the home button to its metal bracket, either directly gluing the center back of the button, or the gasket, or both, whichever will work best and keep the button secure, Ill be putting a glass screen protector on the screen as well which could help keep it aligned/show me when its coming away.

Would this work? and would the button be damaged in the process? I do have a spare button that I can use to test, but if it wont work Id rather find out first.

I agree with Alex about using superglue. When drying it generates some gas that makes glass blury. I would suggest that you send your damage screen to a dedicated shop to have the front glass changed. In europe it is around 20€ to get a clean repair with keeping the original apple lcd quality

use packing tape. Packing tape works fine with capacitive touch, and as long as the sensor is sparkly clean, the print will transfer through

philippe gas cannot get between the glass and the lcd to make it blurry as its sealed by either loca glue or oca laminate

I would not recommend using super glue or any liquid type of glue on the home button or anywhere close to internal parts. It can make more bad than good. If you still want to keep your old glass i would recommend putting a piece of tape over it that will keep it in place until you decide to get a new screen.

@ismartrepair if I use tape will touch ID still work? I will assume no but if it does thats a huge bonus

With some of them will work. You can just try. I did it for customers that wanted a quick fix until the paycheck when they could get the glass fixed and it worked

thanks guys, put a strip of black electrical tape on it since it was what I had on hand, and touch ID works fine, and the button doesnt move. Time to save up for a high quality screen or apple repair
