Can a screen open on the edge of my iPhone cause malfunction issues?

I recently took my iPhone in for screen repair because the screen got cracked at the top of the phone and I believed that crack was the reason my phone went through a lot of malfunction issues.

Like my google maps GPS would always recalculate every 5 minutes or so. Sometimes when I make a wrong turn on the road, the gps won't even reroute.

Few days after my screen got repaired, I noticed malfunction issues again with the google maps app. I then noticed light coming out the edge of my screen. It's like the screen was not clamped shut all the way.
