It's been a while since I've had an R4 card, but if I remember correctly you can always download the "firmware" from the internet and transfer it manually to your SD card. Is the R4 interface not loading anymore?

you can also get a DS lite that hasnt had the updates, update the cart on the DS L then see if it works on the DSi, i have had to do this several times when i inadvertently updated my dsi's

How do you connect your DS lite to the internet they don't natively do that? If you have the NDS web browser card you have no way to save anything to the r4 as neither the DS Lite or the NDS web browser have the ability to save data. The game save function and program routine is part of the game cartridge the r4 operating system does not have that instruction set. Even if it could or I have misunderstood and you are actually referring to do this with a DSi R4s are updated by replacing the operating system which comes in a zipped file. Nothing that Nintendo has put out to date can unpack a zipped file. Learning is my first love. Please teach me how to do this.

i'd like to know the answer too. my question ages ago was about an R4 card in a dslite that wouldn't load..as far as I know you can't update a dsl and I still have no idea about why this R4 failed..I'd love to sort it out...70+ games.

Polly come to the dark side. We have cookies :P

what? chocolate chip or wafers :-p

I am surprised you would ask that. Everyone knows that the main reason to save the earth is because it is the only planet with chocolate. What good would it do you to live here if you don't partake of it's goodness - at least a little.

I updated my DSi via internet and had the same problem. You'll have to buy a newer R4 card because the bios in the DSi now recognizes the old card and blocks it. You can sell or give your old card to someone who hasn't updated their bios. Get the newest firmware for the new card to be able to the latest rom releases.

Well, the latest upgrades of the DSi have locked the access to older cards and firmwares, for obvious reasons. I won't get in detail, but only a few people are honest enough to use the flashcards to play titles they already own, or to keep playing the old GBA titles he used to have.

Thus, with almost every single update Nintendo tweaks the firmware codes that bit that's needed to prevent the flashcart to run.

Some flashcarts, like the Supercard or newer, simply shell out new firmwares to counter every Nintendo firmware. Some other cart can be updated only with firmwares compatible with older revisions of the Nintendo Devices.

You may recognize a newer flashcard because it has special markings on the sticker, such as a golden "V1.43" or similar stuff, save for the DSTWO Supercard who lacks similar markings.

However, I suggest you next time to open a new question to get a swift reply, since this one is already years old.

Make sure you get the right kind. From what I've read, only the SUPERCARD DSTWO, Wood R4i Gold 3DS, R4i sdhc rts and R4i dual core will continue to work. http://www.thegamerdepot.com/buy-wood-r4... and the wood r4i card is currently the best and the most popular one out there

The best way is too set ur date back all the way to 2012 at any date. Although it may corrupt or destroy some of ur game data in the game. But it should work if the card is expired and comes up with some red text.(before you change the date) I hope this works as it works for me. As well as if u want to play a normal game cardige then just set the date back. This mainly would work on the 3ds. But if you have a dsi then you have to go into the settings by taking out the r4 and any other inputs. Then I had just tampered around then when I turned it on and on the games worked. I hope it works but yeah it might not

And normally for the ds it keeps saying it's loading follow the steps above that I wrote and that might help. But when it says it's loading you have probably corrupted or ruined the card meaning you have to pay for a new one.

Maybe you should change to another R4 card, the better choice is r4 3ds card now for the time being.

You can also homebrew your dsi. And then you could copy your ROMs to the method here ://youtu.be/gFq-yPtqq6Y
