Stalled while driving and will not restart

I was drinking my 97 Jeep TJ se between 30-40 mph and it stalled very suddenly. I tried to restart it with no luck. Nothing was leaking and the dash lights, headlights, stereo all stay on strong.

When I try to start everything sounds right. I'm getting electric, no rapid clicking noise. The engine is turning but will not fire and turn over.

@vitathread sounds like a fuel issue. Remember that Chrysler/Jeep has had issues with the TIPM and it is possible that your Jeep is part of this.

Typical symptoms of a TIPM failure

Fuel pump not turning off and burning out

Airbags not deploying OR deploying randomly

Engine stalling while driving

Starter cranks but won’t start

Horn going off at random times

Power windows not working

Doors locking or unlocking themselves

Check your fuel pump and relay as well as your fuses and see if that has power.

Always check for fuel, spark, and air. Once you have checked for those, i would lean towards checking the timing.

None of the above. I've changed out: crankshaft position sensor, pickup coil sensor, distributor cap, spark plug wires, ignition coil, and spark plugs. I can hear the fuel pump turn on. I've tried using engine starter fluid (didn't start) to rule out fuel pump.

I bought a mulitmeter but can't find a good resource to how to use it. All the YouTube stuff assumes you know the lingo.

Frustrating... I'm worried it's the pcm but don't want to throw another $200 at it becuase I can't diagnose the problem. Might be headed for a shop.

Same thing happened to my 1998 TJ Sport a couple of weeks ago. Turned out the distributor bearing(s) had gone bad and was delivering an uneven spark. You might take off the distributor cap and see if there is a lot of side-to-side play in the rotor.

I had this issue with my 97 TJ. After the engine cooled down it would restart. I found that the distributor had a small crack under the rotor plate that only expanded when the engine was hot. Replaced the distributor and the problem was resolved.
