Is it save to change the network card?

Hi. Recently I brought a new laptop from the hp online store, but I didn't choose the right network card. I want to change the network card, but feel unsure about it because I heard my friend said there is a whitelist. My laptop model number is #1GK61AV_1.

As long as the card you want to put is is compatible with your machine a swap is not a problem . What card is in the machine and what card do you want to put in ?

I now have a Realtek rtl8723DE 802.11b/g/n PCLe adapter. I don't know what kind of network card will work since my friend told me there is a whitelist

Your system was sold in three different configs a 802.11n, 802.11ac & 802.11ac MIMO (two concurrent connections)

Here is the listing of the parts in the HP service manual: WLAN module

As for a white list. Not sure where your friend got that idea. Swapping out the adapter with the HP spare WiFi adapter won't have any effect on useablity. But if you enabled 'Computrace LoJack for Laptops' you'll need to talk with Computrace to get your new adapter registered.

So you mean I can put in any kind of network card and it will work?

To be clear here we are only talking about the WiFi card. Your system also has an Ethernet port to access a wired network.

For the WIF card the ones listed in the service manual is what you have.

I'm not sure if all of the systems have the second WiFi antenna for the MIMO card. You should check your system if it's there and/or speak with HP what's required.

And 1 more question. How long does a wifi card last.
