I have a Visio 47" LCD-HD-TV, and a cleaning service employee dropped a heavy glass picture frame, (it broke) and damaged the wood surface the TV is on. No problem. My TV still works fine.
BUT, can a 1/2" long scrach on the surface of the LCD screen be fixed?

I think what got scratched is the front glass of your TV. I bet that if you contact Vizio they can guide you to replacing the panel otherwise a good glass supplier could pssibly help you out as well as crystal and jeweler places have great resources in how to remove scratches as long as there is no coating involved. techsupport@vizio.com might give you a better idea.

Once the screen is damaged it can not be fixed.

Yea i have a scratch on mine to (sorry to hear that) but no there's nothing you can do to get rid of it unless you get the screen replaced, and in my opinion isn't worth the money.
