i changed the screen and now the screen is dull, i placed my original back in and its doing the same.. anybody else had this issue and what solutions are there??

a. Faulty LCD.
"The cheap screens have an exposed backlight solder joint on the flex. Closing up the phone can short the backlight circuit to ground. It blows a backlight filter/fuse and this is usually the extent of it"
b. Otherwise try to replace the Prox Sensor but shoudn't make any diff really. That's only to kill time :)

but the original lcd doesnt work with it now either, that is also very dull to the extent i cannot see the screen
To eliminate the motherboard failure try the prox sensor. For a measure of fun try another screen
Could've shortened the board somewhere but that's an expensive mistake to fix

Hi Kaz,
It sounds like there is an issue with the ambient light sensor. It is on the same connector as the front facing camera. I would check and make sure that it is connected and not damaged.

is it dull even at maximum brightness?
