My 40D suddenly will not turn on

My 40D was working fine. I did not use it for several days and when I went to use it, it does nothing. No lights, not screens, nothing. Its as if its not turned on. I have checked all the switches in the battery door, replaced the 3v lithium internal battery. I've checked the switches in the card door. I've tried new batteries and new cards. Fully charged multiple batteries using multiple chargers. I've tried it with and without a lens, still it does nothing at all. No lights no displays of any kind. Its as if it just will not power on at all. Canon no longer repairs the 40D and there are no repair shops anywhere near me. The camera just suddenly went dead and does nothing..??

inside the battery compartment is a little slot for a cr2016 battery (it's the flat coin shaped one) it's easy to miss you have to pull up on the little grooves that hold this battery in the slot. the writing is black!so its easy to miss but it should read "cr2016 3v" replace this battery and your camera will come back to life!

Same problem. FIXED!!!

it was only a bad contact in one of the two little switches in the battery and CF card slots.

I moved them with a little needle and all was resolved!

I asked my wife to pick a CR2016 battery if she saw one at the pharmacy, and low and behold they had one. It worked like a charm. I didn't have to buy any new 512 batteries nor new charger. Thanks Fred, I would have never seen it if not for your guidance.

I have tried a fully charged battery and a new CR 2016. I actually have 2 40D's with the same issue. Yes, I have tried multiple batteries on them. The contacts appear to be "clean".

Any other thoughts would be most welcome.

Thank you in advance.

well a little more info is needed to better understand whats happening or not. if i may be so bold to assume your saying you've changed the batteries and your not getting anything on both camera's? sound like you have false battery charge in one or both your batteries because what's the likely hood of 2 camera's having the exact same problems at the exact same time?! you should play the lotto with luck like that

I have used 4 different batteries in each camera. The whole thing is really strange. AND the batteries work in my 10D.

Mr. Black Circle - Or Mx, whatever - THANK YOU. Your magic lotto luck came through the screen. They are now both working. Not a clue in the world why but I am NOT going to second guess it.

Thank you for your internet/ether magic.

I owe you one.
