Error code number 23 when trying to restore iPhone?

Ok, so I asked about this iPhone before I received it. When I got it, I plugged it into the wall and I got was the Apple emblem with a black background. So I plugged it into itunes, it downloaded the software, then when it tried to restore it, it said an unknown error occurred. Number 23 to be exact. I also want to add that there is a gray line across the screen on the bottom..? Bad logic board or is there something else I can try first?

Contesta esta pregunta Yo también tengo este problema

Es esta una buena pregunta?

Disconnect your iPhone and turn it off by holding the "Sleep/Wake" button for about five seconds and then sliding the red slider. If your iPhone is already off, there's no need to turn it on and then off again. Once it's off, press and hold the "Home" button and plug your iPhone into a Mac or PC with iTunes installed. Keep holding the "Home" button until you see a dock cable pointing to the iTunes icon. iPhones running older software will display a yellow triangle and text which says "Please Connect to iTunes". Once you see this image, you can release the Home button. Open iTunes (if it's not already open) and you will be told that "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode." Click "OK" and you will be taken to the iPhone pane. Click "Restore" and you're done, it's that easy! Depending on the extent of your iPhone's ills, it may take some time to do a full restore. Once you're done, you should again have a perfectly working iPhone.

If this doesn't solve your problem, you may need to restore using DFU (Direct Firmware Upgrade) mode. To enter this mode, plug in your iPhone and turn it off. Hold down the "Home" and "Sleep/Wake" buttons for about twelve seconds. You'll briefly see the silver Apple logo and then your phone will appear to turn back off. Release the "Sleep/Wake" button but continue to hold the "Home" button until you see a message in iTunes stating that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Choose "Restore" and you should be fixed right up!

Ok well I replaced the logic board, and now I have a new problem.. Itunes is not recognizing the phone anymore...? I plug it in and nothing happens.

- de

Nevermind. I decided to buy one that works and save this one for parts.

Mostly it is due to an antivirus application which will block the application. try to disable the AV application and try again.

Hard reset will also work.

How hard is it to do this? I used to work on pool motors, and I have fixed a few other things here and there. Is it extremely difficult?

I ordered the part and tools on here as well as looking over the step by step guide. But one thing I am not clear on is whether I will have to sotter any wires?

Sarah, here is the definition of error 23:

Error 23

Cannot restore or update due to hardware problems.

  • In software you have to set default web browser.
  • In hardware, it's a communication problem. Check all connections, also try to change battery.
  • faulty baseband flash or processor

There are a few instances where users were able to fix or sidestep error 23. Pain in the neck and again it looks there are issues with jailbreaking etc. Just in case you still have your phone together, may be you can give it a try. Who knows and nothing to lose I suppose, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275 and http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/show... and try this one if you like.

Here are the steps.

1. download redsn0w 0.9.4

2. unzip or unrar to specified folder

3. search and download for bootloader 3.9 and 4.6

4. search and download original stock ipsw 3.1.2

5. store all downloads in one folder

6. open redsn0w

7. find 3.1.2 ipsw

8. wait to load

9. click next

10. tick "already pwnd" , unlock and Install Cydia

11. make your 2G to be in recovery mode (fastest – power off, press and hold home button and plug USB)

12. wait until redsn0w 0.9.4 finished

13. wait to reboot iPhone 2G

14. wait to iPhone gets flashed with BootNeuter 2.1 (already installed in iPhone)

15. iPhone reboots itself and voila you got rid of error

Ultimately I am sure that pollytintop is right since he does know about those iPhones and gives very sound advice....good luck

I might even try fixing my phone again- I did try this on it before-unsuccessful , but I think I'll give it another shot.... think might have used different redsnow?

I have a feeling the error is a baseband corruption so ultimately software related. You can try downloading the original (earliest)IPSW for the 2g and downgrade-see if that works.

Would a bad logic board also cause the gray line on the bottom of the screen? This iPhone is in excellent cosmetic shape, so I am pretty sure it was damaged otherwise..?

- de

grey line is probably dead pixels on the lcd-you could replace but that means the whole display as it is sold as an entire unit. or you can just live with it if its only fine.

I have a iPhone 2G 8GB with restore error 23, I simply opened it up and disconnected the communications board from the motherboard, Restored it successfully on 3.1.3 and reconnected it once done, And works fine, Have been using it for 1 1/2 years since.

I love the 2G, Even though its old, Its so durable. I like mine because its in mint condition, However i am also using a iPhone 4S :)

Hope this helps people.

It’s sound weird but I tried all of these solutions every single one i even reset all settings for 3 times ,change wifi connection ,sim card ,itunes and totally everything that could be near or far away from the issue and finally simply when I switch on the vpn it worked . I noticed that when I tried to check for updates by sim data it showed me the update but couldn’t done it by data “apple policy” so i suspected that the issue is from wifi ,ip address idk but it’s just got me weird I really don’t know what’s wrong however every time i had trouble with apple things it’s just blowup my mind.
