Can the iSight camera be removed?

I need to remove the iSight camera from my new MBA in order to take it into some facilities that don't allow cameras. Wondering if anyone has accomplished this for the MBA.

Not easily done

See this guide.

Apple apparently doesn't want you inside this thing. They decided to use 5-point Security Torx to attach the lower case.

I would look for some workaround cover camera or leave MacBook in case and turned off.

Remember to return and mark accepted the answer that best solves your problem.

Good luck,

I removed the drivers using "iSightdisabler version 5", and covered the lens with grey colored paint. Problem solved!

It's possible that the facility's overlords will be satisfied with physically disabling the camera, as opposed to removing it. After all, every cellphone made for the last 12-13 years has a camera; do they confiscate everyone's phones when they come onsite?

You can disable the iSight camera by disconnecting the cable connecting the camera to the logic board. Use this guide up through Step 23, then reverse the steps to reassemble the MacBook Air. That way, you can reconnect the camera when your situation changes, without risking damage by opening up your display panel.

The powers that be cannot see inside the computer so disconnecting the wire is pointless. Covering the camera with paint, or using a pine tipped pounch to break out the lens and filling the hole with epoxy makes it easy to physically verify the absence of the camera.

I have gone a step further to disconnect the cable connecting the camera to the motherboard. Now at anytime I can demonstrate not only is the camera painted over, but the info app says "no camera is installed".
