Check engine light will not turn on
When I turn the ignition on, all of the lights on the dash turn on and then go off. But the check engine light never turns on.
How do I make it come on?

I would also think that it is a good thing if it does not come on :) but I think I see your issue. IT just does not come on at all, even when you just turn the key to the start position where all the lights and gauges come on? I suppose there could be any number of reasons for this but I would start by checking the actual bulb and the PCB of the instrument cluster and go from there. Not sure if this helps, sorry.

Been having problems with computer .just replaced it a few months ago cause was having hard shifting on Trany. Tracy was overhauled and mechanics left starter wires hanging which grounded of manifold cause the wires melted.checked i.c.m on my e.h.I it was good changed the coil with a new one and replaced my pick up coil on distributor checked fuses inside they good too ! It cranks but does not start unless I take off e.c.m for atleas an hour.strange! then I try it then it starts but shuts of again! I'm really trying tout get this truck running I even changed the knock sensor
thats also my problem, what is the answer of that problem
When a computer is replaced, it usually has to be programmed by using a specific programming computer. J1234 box. It is not a case of just buying a part and installing it. Was that done?

Prior owner/seller probably pulled the bulb out so the buyer wouldnt see the check engine light was on....or its just burnt out.
Its possible its a PCB (printed circut board) problem on the gauge cluster, but highly unlikely.
Replace the bulb. Or swap it out with the ABS light (or something) as a test.

I have a 1998 Chevrolet S10 my check engine light will not come on I replace the bulb still nothing anybody got any ideas please let me know could it be a wire they cut at the computer

When you turn ignition to "On" position the engine computer is supposed to run some checks and turn on all the warning lights such as Battery and etc. and then they are supposed to turn off once the engine is running. What he is saying is that during this check, the check engine light does not light up. He is asking what does this mean? Does that mean the ECU is fried and no good?
In other words, what he is saying is that if he were to disconnect an engine sensor such as the MAF or IAC valve, he does not get a check engine light on and when he goes to read the codes, the scanner says there are no codes. What does this mean? ECU fried?

I also have no check engine light at all. How do You check codes without it?

Could be a broken bulb but not very likely. ECU is fried when the check engine light doesn't light up during normal start checks or if you disconnect emission sensor. Sorry for the bad news. New ECU or replace the car.
It was the ECU I had a spare on the self to check it. It runs the same with either one tho.

are kidding me? I guess if you had a headache then that means you have a bad cold if not then your brains fried, your going to die, call the Coroner!

ok most of time its a fuel system issues a lot of the time go to fuel cap pull it off inspect the seal around the cap any tear or signs of wear. Replace if necessary. after 5 or 6 drive cycles it will turn off. if it comes on again or stays on, go to your local part store and have them read the code with the scanner. its free. you may have to replace the cap. They might also tell you its an o2 sensor, ask them to show you on the car where it is. then buy a 02 sensor and replace it your self. saving you about a $100. remember any light that comes on in your car go have it check out and do the work yourself. saving you lots of cash.

here is the deal,run jumper wire at diagnostic connection but instead of first 2 slots ,go with 1 and 4,if check engine light comes on ,its the circuit board in module under dash,its about 2 inches wide,4 inches long,either lite green or gray or black,plastic tube box with a door on one end,will be tape up alongside wiring,cut tape ,open lid and there is a small circuit board that handles lie and codes from computer

You need to know what year the vehicle is. 1996 models and later are OBD 2 and will have a MIL. I think too that if the vehicle has a computer that it will have a Mal-Function Lamp. MIL Frank
I have a 1991 Chevrolet G 28 cylinder 5.7 L engine I’ve had two or three mechanics tell me that my check engine light isn’t working but I’m pretty sure that I took a flashlight very closely up to the dashboard and inspected for the check engine light and still can’t find anything the smog shop says that I won’t pass because my check engine light isn’t working but I don’t think I have a check engine light so I can’t seem to find what the issue is. I’ll pull the dash apart and thoroughly check for a bulb located where I assume the check engine light possibly could be. However I’d like to know how to fix the check engine light as in get it to turn back on again?
Check engine did not come out when the key swtich on, the engine fail to start. What is the problem?

On a Ford the check engine light operates a little different from other vehicles in that it goes off after cranking while on others it goes off after the ignition is on for a second or two. Frankiedon

I have a problem . that is sometime the check engine light is not turn on.If i cranking that time the vehicle not start. If the check engine light is on , that time cranking and start . I change the ECU from another vehicle. but problem is same.now what can i do. my vehicle nissan urvan ,mobel -2009
I have the same problem with my corolla 2008. But I didn't change the ecu yet. It is costly and I want to be sure it will solve the problem.

I got a 1994 Chevy Blazer Silverado K 1500 Suburban is a 5.7 v8 my check engine light doesn't come on even after replacing the computer program to my VIN and marrying the key to it through the steps from the dealer. If I had gas directly to the throttle body in a run but not on its own. Fuel injectors are new fuel pump and inline filter are new and I just did a tune-up on it. It still doesn't run all the wiring is clean and I just don't know what to do. nybody I have any help or Solutions

If you mean that the MIL does not lite with the key on engine off, check the powers and grounds to the computer, if the computer is not live none of the sensors will work nor ignition,injectors etc. check fuse for the computer as wel. Frank

Usually when the check engine light comes on, it indicates a problem somewhere. So I have to ask before I can formulate an answer.

But the engine never goes on due to the check engine not being part of that sequence it comes on at the end of the cycle and the Truck will not crank over. in the beginning it would do it on and off but i kept an eye on it and everytime the check engine light woukd be first on the sequence cycle the truck would start when it dint appear first it didnt start. What i am saying is that during this initial check, the check engine light does not light up. Does that mean the ECU is fried and no good?
