White screen after repair

I had someone bring me an iPhone 3GS they had attempted to take apart (to replace the glass) by prying apart the chrome bezel from the back case. Needless to say, they broke several components in the process. I had to replace the dock connector assembly, the power/headjack/mute-toggle/etc. ribbon cable and vibrate motor. I also replaced the glass digitizer and LCD.

When I power it on, I never get the apple logo, and it goes right to a white screen. If I hit the power/lock button it will go black screen. Hit it again and white screen. The mute toggle works (phone will vibrate), and iTunes recognizes the iPhone just fine. Holding home button will bring up voice control. I have tried swiping the digitizer screen to see if I can get some sort of audible response, but no luck. I have tried multiple new LCD and digitizer's, and same symptoms.

I have even restored the firmware 3 times, no luck. Can anyone help?

when someone has taken no care or paid any attention to the help guides that are free all over the www it's a wonder anything works at all. well done to you for getting it to this stage. I'd imagine that in prising apart the display they have either levered on a component or they have damaged the LCD connector/path in someway. you need to examine the connections and then follow the path looking for fractures in the gold wiring of the motherboard (which you can then solder/jump) or use a infrared thermometer to isolate the non working component. my guess is connector 1 is slightly off the board or pin bent so that only some of the pins are in contact with the motherboard.

"when someone has taken no care or paid any attention to the help guides that are free all over the www it's a wonder anything works at all"... I hate comments like this. First, at least they tried to fix it themselves instead. Secondly, do you fix everything the first time you try it? For me, the first couple of times doing anything is the learning process.

@Jimmy Cochran, I changed your answer to a comment, since it obviously was not an answer. BTW, I think what was implied here was, that somebody tried to fix it (nothing wrong with that) but then expect someone else to fix it (after it was further broken)

@ oldturkey03 I can't believe you felt compelled to reply to that.

@Jimmy Cochran, hate is such a strong word....:-)

Try the following;

Press and hold the home button, then the up-volume button, then the sleep/power button (so all three buttons are now pressed and held) --- it takes a while, but the white screen will go away and then after another 10 seconds or so (still holding btw!) the apple logo will come up, release the buttons and then wait, it'll boot normally again in a minute or two.

I've used this to resolve WSoD on iPod, iPhone and now need to do it on my iPhone, which sadly, has a broken up-volume button, so it's proving a bit tricky.

I had the same problem with my Iphone 3gs in the past after fixing my screen or even putting something new in the phone it self. When i get the white screen I check all my cables are plug in tight and right if that is not the case I just do a Factory restore on the phone that always seems to fix the problem for me hope it help everyone else!

I have the white screen when I lock/unlock my screen with the top button on my 3GS. It is so annoying. Pressing and holding the top button and the home button does not work. It stared when my ex smashed my phone against the wall. There is nothing else wrong with the phone.
