Nearly no sound when recording Videos with back camera

  • When recording Videos with the backside camera I have nealy no sound, only noise. Some loud sounds are hearable, though,
  • Videos with front camera are fine
  • Siri can hear me
  • Telephone calls work with and without speaker mode
  • No dust in the mic holes

What part do I have to replace? Lightning connector?

I don't think it's that mic. I tried taking Videos with an iPhone 6S. When I cover the hole next to the back camera I hear no sound when recording. So I think it must be that microphone.

Bus as far as I can see there is no replacement part to order in the EU shop...

So which one is it, your first comment or your last?

''I don't think it's that mic. I tried taking Videos with an iPhone 6S. When I cover the hole next to the back camera I hear no sound when recording. So I think it must be that microphone.''

The video is recorded by the back microphone on the iPhone 6, that's what you need to look at or replace.

You should comment on the answer and not the original question so that other folks can follow the conversation better. As more answers accumulate, it becomes impossible to know who is responding to whom.

There are three microphones on the iPhone 6. There is one for phone calls/front camera videos, one for noise cancellation and one for the rear camera.

From Apple Support

If audio from video recordings sounds faint, or Siri can’t hear you, make sure that the microphone near the iSight camera—on the top, back corner of your iPhone—and the receiver isn’t blocked or covered.

If the rear microphone isn't obstructed, then you need to order this one.

From Apple Support

To test the primary microphone on the bottom of your iPhone, open Voice Memos and tap the record icon. Then speak into the microphone and tap the play icon to play back the recording. You should be able to hear your voice clearly.

If your voice sounds faint when you’re using the speakerphone on a phone call, make sure that your iPhone receiver isn’t blocked or covered.

I had very low sound on video recording. All other sound was fine. I inspected the microphone hole on the back near the rear camera with a jeweler’s loupe and it appeared to be ‘gummed’ up. I used a Q tip and liberal amounts of isopropyl alcohol to loosen the clog and then swab it out. The audio returned perfectly. I think some liquid like soda with sugar clogged the mic.
