Why is my camera saying "out of memory?"

My camera keeps telling me that my memory card is out of memory even though it is empty. How do I fix it?

Try taking out the memory card and then going to images. The camera might have a small inbuilt memory.

I had this problem and this is how I fixed it. Remove memory card and use the USB cable to hook the camera to your PC. Access the internal memory. I found a lot of pictures on the internal memory. I copied and save the pictures and then deleted them for the internal camera memory. I then reinserted my memory card and took some test pictures . The pictures were written to my memory card and the camera is now functioning properly!

I have a similar problem but I'm using an iMAC ... how do I access the internal memory? Thanks

I don't know about IMAC. On my Nikon L26 camera I just remove the memory card and attached the USB cable from my camera to my desktop PC and was able to access the memory using Explorer

@laney916 you did not tell us if you used the memory card in this camera before. You said that "it is empty" I assume that you have not used it. I would start by formatting it. Download your cameras manual from here. Check page 34 to start.

Yes, I have used it before and had no problems.

Did you try formatting?

I have had the camera for a couple years, no problems, Turned it on yesterday and after 2 or 3 pictures, it came up with out of memory. Tried other sim card, no help, formatted the sims, no help, emptied the camera and sims of about 10 pictures total. I get the same message with or without sims. What next?

I have the same issue as jim.. cool pix camera isn't detecting memory card. I tried several cards that I've used in the past and the camera is functioning as if there is no card inserted.

I'm having exactly the same issue, I bought a coolpix 5700 second hand. Used a few times, recharged batteries and inserted 2 brand new flash cards as said no memory. I even tried formatting but still nothing! Been googling then found this so can anyone please help

If its new camera and you don’t have a memory card inserted you will only be able to take 4 pictures and any additional picture after that you will get this message. Camera out of memory. So delete some of the 4 pictures and try again.

I figured out the issue everyone is having...

- I put the 16 GB Card in a few times making sure it got that "click" sound....

- Didn't Work...

- I Put the Card in again but this time it didn't "click"...

- I turned on the Camera it asked me to format the Card so I did and now it works just fine...

  • So the problem is a connection problem with the pins and the "clicking mechanism"... ***

If you Slide the Card in all the way with "no click" and the Card stays there then Success!!

Hope this helps you all out...
