Disk stuck in optical drive and hard drive erased.

PowerBook G4 hard drive in bad shape crashed even after cleaning with DiskWarrior, disk still in drive. Erased hard drive with my iMac (firewire connection). Disk will not eject with any traditional means. Need to get it out so I can reinstall Tiger.

Thanks, Scott Head, that's what I had to do: disassemble and remove the drive.

Thanks, Brian for trying.

Go ahead and install a system while in Target Mode. Try while in Target mode: Going to Applications--Utilities Launch Terminal.app, type drutil eject then press return

If this fails and you get a system installed boot from the new system and try it.

Try starting the computer while holding the trackpad button down. If that doesn't work, you can physically remove the optical drive, open it up and retrieve your CD.

If holding down the trackpad button while the computer is starting up didn't work, then depending on your model g4 their should be a tiny emergency eject hole to the right of the optical drive, use a paperclip while the computer is on or starting up to push that tiny button and the disc should eject.

Sorry if you have already tried these options, I wasn't sure.

you can also try the following Linx distro installed on a USB flash drive, al thou I am not sure that will work either. (booting from USB)....

You can boot from USB on a mac using the command line/ openfirmware prompt. Command+Option+o+f

This would require some command line stuff tying to find the USB device and it's name and then booting from the USB drive once you find it.
