Crazy light bleed in left corner of screen, probably from water damage

Hi.

I'm not sure what just happened.

I cleaned my screen with a tiny bit of water, but I guess there might have been a bit too much. I guess I was pressing down on the cloth to get rid of something in the corner. I've done this many times before without issue, but now there is a huge light blotch in the left corner of my screen. There is an odd rectangular shape near the bottom too that doesn't make much sense. Take a look at this image of a completely white window:

I've read that the classic rice method, and or heating the computer up for a long period of time might help it dry, but I'm not entirely sure it's only water that's the problem.

Anyways, hoping someone can help me understand the damage I've done and what I might be able to do, other than paying for a replacement :D. Thanks.

Update (09/25/2016)

Time seems to have healed all wounds.

I ran the computer hot with a 'while true' loop for a couple hours and it burned most of the water off, and what was left is slowly disappearing.

My suggestion: Live with it.

If you can even find a replacement part, it is going to cost over $500 for the part.

Sadly using rice is an old urban legion with no supportive facts! The assumption is what works for removing humidity will work with liquids. Sorry to say it won’t!

The problem you are facing is moisture has gotten trapped between the defuser sheets that spread the backlight out across the screen and the polarizer sheet. While heat can cause the moisture to evaporate out, the solids and minerals within the liquid or water will leave a stain which could be pronounced or very faint.

The only means to correct this properly is to disassemble the display to gain access to the sheets so they can be cleaned properly. In some cases the sheets may need replacing as the liquid has damaged them.

If you do attempt to do this you will need to be mindful these sheets can be easily wrinkled which will cause the light to be distorted and will require a clean dust free work area as any dust left behind will be noticeable.

You should use distilled water and soft micro clothes the wash down the sheets and let them air dry (solvents can damage the sheets and some will leave stain marks). After cleaning wipe them down with the dry micro cloth to pull off any dust as you reassemble the screen.

Here’s the IFIXIT guide you’ll need to follow to take the display apart: MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown Do use care as the display panel its self can easily be broken in the process of disassembly. To take the display assembly off fully follow this IFIXIT guide. While not the cheapest way to deal with this your last option is to just replace the display assembly.
