LCD broken while trying to repair screen?

I have a tablet that was dropped onto the floor and the screen cracked. Originally it appeared only the digitizer was broken and the LCD was fine because I was still able to turn it on and navigate the device using the cracked digitizer.

So I bought a digitizer online and tried to replace it, but when I assembled everything, I saw a white background with a bunch of lines and some dark areas on the side. So was the LCD damaged during the repair process?

I did notice that if I pressed down on the digtizier (not fully glued in yet), I saw a vague image of an icon but still had some fuzziness to it. So am I suppose to be able to see something coherent if the digitizer is not glued tightly to the LCD or does some sort of pressure need to be applied to really see something?

Like Hortman mentioned the LCD has been damaged. It will need replaced. The digitizer does not have anything to do with displaying the image. So even if the digitizer was fully installed it would not correct the problem with the LCD not displaying correctly. The digitizers only responsibility is to sense the location of touch on the screen and relay that information to the motherboard. So you will definitely need to replace the LCD unfortunately. Once an LCD display cracks it is not repairable, but is replaceable at least.
