Maurice,

Based on some quick googling, it seems like the Mazda 6s have several known transmission issues.

The quick and easy ones are the park switch, transmission mounts, and burning up transmission fluid. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like any of those explain your problems.

Probably the most efficient fix would be to find a used transmission for a swap out.

Best of luck

I have a 2007 Mazda 6 same issue won't shift past 3rd and giving code that the shift solenoid is stuck open I changed fluid like I was recommended and unplugged the battery to reset the computer after doing so the car Will run like a dream all the way to 5 gear then when you come to a stop the light comes back on the at light and the engine light after lots of research I found out it's prolly the transmission control module that only Mazda or racing shops can get Mazda charges 600 for the part it's located under the dash under steering wheel if you take your car to Mazda they will tell you it's the transmission and charge you 3000 to fix it I found the part at a race shop had them order it and paid 160 I will install today and should fix the problem hope this helps someone

Maurice, Could be a faulty shift solenoid. Have vehicle scanned for trouble codes by a good Tech., diagnosed and estimate repair.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

On the Mazda 3, 5, and 6, if it is having the issue of not getting out of 3rd it will most likely read a bad solenoid. Even if you replace all of them on the transmission, you still have the chance it will not fix the problem. Instead of replacing the transmission, switch out the TCM, (transmission control module) and see if that doesn't fix your problem. Should shift as smooth a silk. Also another thing to check with that problem would be the speed control sensor.

Hello. I have a 2008 Mazda 6. It says solenoid 2 when put on computer. It won't shift past 3rd. So I got a new 2nd solenoid changed it and didn't fix it, it still doing same thing. I bought that box that has the 6 solenoids in it and had it put in and it did shift to 4 and 5 two times and that's it. Was stuck right back in 3rd gear. Ugh. So I then got a modular and had put on , still no change…. I took to a dealership and had put on computer and cleared transmission. And..still no change, its still stuck in 3rd gear!! Ugh… Can someone plz plz help me out here?? I'm ready to pull my hair out with this car. Really can't afford a transmission for it. Thanks. Christy.

Its the wiring going from the solenoid to the tcm....I believe kt to be an orange wire

- de

Some time, solenoid do go bad, but the worst thing to check, is the condition of the wire connectors. Bad bad connection corrosion or break in The wire from the sensors on the transmission itself. The wiggle the wire test is usually the first start.

where is the solenoid?
