new screen but the touchscreen will not respond

I have a severely cracked glass screen. I replaced the screen with iFixit product. But now the glass screen will not respond to touch. Any suggestions on what is wrong?

Hi there,

It is likely to be a connection issue, make sure the new screen is correctly attached to the logic board and that you haven't damaged the flex cable. If the problem still persists then have a look at the logic board to make sure you haven't damaged any of the components. If you are confident there isn't any damage then it may just be a faulty screen.

Thanks for the helpful reply. Curious, though, how does one know if a flex cable has been damaged? I was very careful and check to make sure the cables were secure.

You can tell if it has been physically ripped, damaged like holes, punctures and stuff like that.

Check the digitizer ribbon connector on the logic board, see if it is damaged in any way for example the clip, the pins connected to the connector.

If you have time I would reseat all the connections you initially touched just to be sure. Especially the digitizer ribbon.

I disconnected the flex cable again. There was no visible damage to any cables. After reattaching, the touchscreen still does not respond. Does anyone know if iFixit will replace the touchscreen?

Disconnect the digitizer, clean the connector and the cable with 99% IPA. Make sure there aren't any tears on the flex, then plug it back in. Should fix it up.

If not, did you happen to break the digitizer connector on the board? Those connectors are kind of famous for being brittle and breaking. If so, a well placed piece of Kapton tape on the flex should keep it in the connector.

Check the flex, clean the connectors and make sure the flex is pressed in tightly.

Thanks for your help. I did everything you mentioned twice, except for the 99% IPA. I disconnected the flex cable. There was no visible damage to any cables. After reattaching, the touchscreen still does not respond. Do you know if iFixit will replace what seems to be a faulty touchscreen?

I know they will and I know they will make things right.

iFixit are good people.
