Touch iD still works, home button does not.

Hello everyone, I know that this topic has been discussed before but my predicament is a little different. I have never actually gone into my iPhone or tried to repair it, but my home button has stopped working and the Touch iD still works. What do you all think the problem could be is there anything I can buy to fix it so I would be able to keep the touch iD feature instead of loosing it with the replacement of a home button? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Does the button still click or is it like it's stuck?

Any liquid damage or drops recently?

If it's like it's stuck, there's not much that can be done, if it still clicks, it may be slightly disconnected or the connector needs cleaning.

If none of that works, then it would probably need replacing, but you will obviously lose Touch ID unfortunately.

Thank you for answering!! There is most definitely an audible click when I press the home button and hasn't had any water damage, so should I open it up and see if anything became loose?

If the phone is still in warranty, take it to Apple, if not, open it up and see if there is any disconnection in the home button flex, be careful when opening though!

What is the home button flex specifically? The cable that connects it to the phone? And I bought it 3 years ago when i came ut I doubt it still has the warranty sadly

It's the short little wire at the bottom of the phone just below the home button. I assume you already found this but here it is anyway. Reemplazo del Botón de Inicio del iPhone 5s The home button flex is being called the home button cable in this guide.

If it's out of warranty I'd open it up and just try reconnecting the home button flex to its connector. If I'm honest, it doesn't sound good if Touch ID is still working for you but pressing the button is unresponsive. As has been said, replacing the home button means you'll lose Touch ID unless its performed by Apple. Hopefully though it could be just a loose connection on the ribbon. If it doesn't work I would just replace the home button, it's obviously better to lose Touch ID than home button functionality. Good luck!
