Was cleaning home button with isopropyl , stops working

Guys about two weeks ago i was cleaning my home button with a q-tip and some alcohol, after this it stopped working along with Touch iD, i turned it off and the next day it still would not work, i haven't gotten around to cleaning it from the inside because I've been very busy, should i take it to somebody that knows how to clean it or do you guys think i'm toast?

Anyway thanks for your answers!

Next time use 99% isopropanol if possible. Try to open the phone carefully, check for visual damage of the button, then repair it or replace it. Keep in mind that by replacing it you will lose the TouchId function, but you will have a functional Home button.

Uh.. I think you just shorted the home button. Did you do it while the phone was off and battery unplugged? That's 30% conductive basically if I'm correct.

91% Isopropyl Alcohol should be used carefully when cleaning electronics. 91% evaporates quicker. 70% may have had time to seep in to the back of the home button and short/corrode it. Did you really soak down the Q-Tip? Putting the alcohol directly on a soft rag and wiping it may be best. That way you don't get anything seeping into the device.

Good news is you can replace it to get home button function back but after replacing a new home button assembly the fingerprint scanner function will not work again on the iPhone 5S.

Also, check the home button assembly flex connection to the charge port. It is held together by a small clip that can be removed by gently lifting up on it. There may be corrosion on the connection. You can clean it with a small brush and 91% alcohol. Pour small amount of alcohol on work surface and dip small brush in it. Don't pour alcohol in device.:)

Yes it was turned off. I poured a small amount on a Q-tip and then cleaned the home button.

Thank you James i will check that out!

I apologise for my late answer Aurelio Chavez,

I regret to inform you that 70% alcohol is too low for sensitive electronics as there's too much water in the solution that conducts electricity

In the future, I would usually use no less than 90%, I myself use 100% pure Alcohol.

I assume you have now fried the module that is the home button. :c
