Black bits on the connector pulled off during Digitizer replacement

Hi all,

I'm trying to replace the touch screen on my iPad3 after I broke it.

When trying to remove the tape that was between the connector and the digitzer ribbon, the black bit on top of the connector came out with the ribbon...

See pictures here:

My question is: is this black bit important or can I replace it with something else or do I need to change the connector?

Thanks for your help

Hi J

You can try to put it on the top and seal it with something and see if it is going to work. If not you can replace the connector or just try to repair it. But this need to be there to make the connection.

Hope this help

Hi Mimi,

Thanks for your answer. You mean put some black tape on top of the connector to replace the missing part?

If you still have the part you need to try to put it in place like that the connections will merge. If you don't have the broken part just tape won't fix the problem you need to replace the connector or find the missing piece and put it back in place.

Last question though, do you know a nice tutorial explaining how to change the connector or how to repair the top bit? (Can't find any good one google...)

Many thanks
