You cannot change the internal back-up battery of this camera, because it does not have one.

The camera's real-time clock and settings memory are powered by the same battery that powers the camera. A capacitor is used for backup so date/time and settings are retained for a while when the battery is removed from the camera.

See the user manual, p. 34.

@flyingdutchman Thanks for your comments.

Till date my date and time was saved when ever I used to remove main battery for charging. But now when ever I remove this battery I loose date and time and I have to set it correctly again.

I called Canon and they said they will charge $300 to change the internal battery.

I am not willing to spend $300 on such a small task.

This is what I bought from amazon.

@ashuji2

It looks like either the backup capacitor has died (which is not user replaceable because it's soldered in) or the clock/memory circuit developed a problem resulting in increased power drain (sometimes this happens).

In either case, this is not something you can solve yourself unless you have advanced troubleshooting and repair skills, the latter case might involve replacing an entire board.

There is a battery. If you look right at the opening of the battery compartment, there are two vertical and one horizontal slits where the internal battery sits. It is very small. The model number is MS614SE. I just disassembled my camera to tinker around.

There is a battery, its accessible via a small barely visable panel inside the part the battery goes into, just below the the lid catch. Though I removed one out of my worki g camera to test in one that doesnt work and now my camera doesnt turn on. Still trying to find information about it and the batteries are like rocking horse poop, so be aware.

Great and, unlike all the other posts by those who have no idea but state false "facts", your answer is correct. It's accessible via an almost invisible door.

Its a MS614S ES cell (Manganese Lithium). it pops out of its holder with a small driver or pin.

The cells are (as you correctly point out) very hard to find. Most of them seem to come with solder tags which are of no use. unless you remove them.

The Canon Part Number is WK1 5174 0000

The battery designation is MS614S ES. If there are letters and numbers after this they denote the welded on solder tags, which you don't want.

Thanks again for a brilliant bit of accurate info.

My Rebel T3i has a clock battery inside a small compartment inside the main battery compartment. If you look inside the battery compartment on the door side, you will see a small compartment where the battery resides. With a very small screwdriver or knife, simply insert the tool into the slot in the compartment cover. Pry the cover open to expose the battery. Using the small tool, carefully pry the battery out of the compartment.

My battery is marked as a Panasonic MS614. I haven't purchased a replacement yet, as I just removed the old one just now. Whether I can get the battery cover to reclose is yet to be determined. I have read that if the cover won't reclose, it may have to be removed. Wish me luck!!!

@ooikamheng I completely disassembled it. I saw no other way to not damage it in the process.

:( just can't lay hands hard on it yet, unless -

it comes to an end. How convenient it will be, if,

it has a maintenance access or tray to change the button cell-easily

:)

Thanks for your sharing. cool stuff to know.

I found it in my old 450D. I had to disasemble the front panel and detach the power board but it was tright underneath. I’ll order a replacement part see if it solves the problems I have…

Things need to crave in to click on the right spot.

my 600D ended up exchanged with the dealer a new set.

And it comes with an working time/Date memory.

no more time/date reset problem caused of built-in button cell :)

Useless when it comes to needed, then i have to open the cast and customize it:)
