Did I destroyed the flex cable?

Hello, today I tryed to replace the battery from my iPhone 5S. The battery was really hard to loosen because of the two glue strips. Now I'm not sure, if I destroyed the flex cable for the the volume buttons. Here a picture:

I didn't turn the phone on, cause I'm waiting for the new battery. What do you mean? are the scratched places bad or not.

There is no way for us to say for sure if the cable is damaged to the point it no longer works - you have to turn on the phone and test everything out.

That cable controls: The mute toggle switch, volume up/down, the power button, the vibrator motor and the rear flash.

I would give it a 75% chance that it still works.

Looks damaged to me, try turning it on and checking, just dont expose any metal to the open scratches.

For the future, use the pull tabs at the bottom and the adhesive just slips out from under the battery. 0 pressure needed.

Hey Jake, thanks for your fast answer. Do you know, if the probable flex cable is broken, do I see the iTunes logo or does the iPhone not recognize it and I can start it but can't use the volume buttons?

There is no (or very slim) chance of damaging the phone by turning it on - if that was what you asked. It only controls the switches I have mentiond in my comment below - so if it is damaged, they will simply not work - the phone would start up fine.

As the flex cable controls the power button, there is a chance that the phone will not power on when you try. In this case, try to plug it into a charger, as this will turn on the phone too.

Unless the connection shorts with metal, you will be fine. Just try it out.
