Preguntas 102 Ver todo

It keeps turning off and on by itself

Out of nowhere, when I power on my GoPro Hero 3 Black, it turns off and on, repeatedly, by itself, until I remove the battery.

There was no shock to the camera when it stopped working, no water damage, maybe a hotter than usual day, but nothing crazy.

Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKSffmH0...

I've tried:

  • removing the battery
  • removing the SD card
  • different battery
  • upgrading the firmware (didn't work, power cycles but with the firmware upgrade process)
  • tearing it apart and looking for loose/broken connections

No luck.

Any ideas?

I have the same issue and have tried numerous different sd cards, brand new batteries with full charge, taken trhe camera apart (every pcb disconnected and removed, checked all terminals and battery terminals, no faults found.

I have tried updating firmware (currently on v 03.02 and still it switches off and on constantly.

I have now decided to give up and my only solution seems to be a new camera and it wont be a GoPro.

Thank you all for your input :-s

Just had this problem, but the camera stayed on when I took the memory card out. On a hunch I tried another sd card, and that seemed to do the trick. Not sure what caused the problem in the first place, as it was working fine moments before.

Not the same issue. I mentioned in the original post that I've tried it without the SD card

It is kind of the same issue. May just be a different root cause. Looked at your video and it looked pretty much the same to me. Different card fixed it (which you hadn't mentioned that you'd tried), so I thought that I'd mentioned it. Just trying to help. Wish that I hadn't bothered.

Hey, sorry if that came out wrong, I didn't mean to sound rude.

No worries :-)

My hero 3 suddenly started beeping, it was in a drawer & had been there for a couple of weeks. When I press and hold the mode button, it beeps and turns off - then immediately turns back on again? I have the larger battery piggy backed onto the camera, and if I remove this, the camera operates normally???

Yes, the battery contacts inside the unit might be loose, More than likely the medal contacts are bent out of shape or not touching depending on the angle that the unit is set. You could measure the distance of the contacts from the base if you had some kind of measuring tool. I bet one side is depressed in too much or more than the other.

Tried 3 different batteries, same result.

The contacts on the gopro also look flawless as seen here: http://imgur.com/a/wtDji

I dropped my camera one day and it starting turning on and off from that day. There's numerous thing that can have caused why is it doing that.

1. Battery (rechargeable type - lithium ) this could be reaching its maximum lifetime change it.

2. The battery terminal where the + side of the battery should touch is loose and the spring tension is wont hold when the battery is inserted.

3. The battery doors is loose you may need to replacse the battery doors

I found mine got the battery not touching good enough on the terminals as it is supposed to have a constant and steady touch on the terminals positive side. What I did is I folded a piece of aluminium foil wrapper just thick enough to get a good push of the battery and it solve my problem. But this is only applicable for the built in type of battery. You place an aluminium foil wrapper behind the battery before you close or or slide the door in.

This is not recommended by the manufacturers. But it did the trick on my camera and it solves the lingering problem.

I just had an issue yesterday, my go pro keeps turning on automatically after it has been turned off (it doesn't turn off automatically). Found out that it is because of the extra battery pack. The extra battery pack is empty of charge. So I charged the extra batt pack and it didn't turned on by itself again.

Hi, just resolved the on /off problem with my go pro hero3+. The additional battery add was uncharged whilst the integral battery was fully charged. Remove add on battery and charge up and the problem is solved!
