2005 grand am overheating

my 2005 grand am is overheating according to the temp gauge. the gauge will go up to 130 and the high temp light will come on but only stays on for approximately 5-10 seconds then the gauge goes back down to 90. it hovers between 90 and 100 degrees but doesnt exceed that. we have replaced the intake gaskets, thermastat, we have added a can of head gasket fix but it continues with the temperature going up then coming back down. our mechanic is stumped and is questioning the head gaskets to be replaced which is quite costly. any suggestions?

Get a temp gun and see if its actually overheating first. I would have done that before throwing in a can of head gasket fix. That stuff is nasty and only meant as a temporary fix. Why were the intake gaskets replaced?

So sorry I left out an important piece of info...2 weeks prior to the intake gasket being replaced my daughter noticed the low coolant light come on so added 1 litre of antifreeze

Approximately 1 week after that noticed again the coolant light so added another litre of coolant

Our mechanic thought that it was the intake gasket needing replacement due to this

Sorry for the omission

Also just spoke to the mechanic

He said while he had it the check engine light came on so he plugged in to his machine and it showed a misfire

Sounds like a headgasket to me.
