Because the design is bad. Likely a floating input pin to the microcontroller. I disassembled it and found out that just by touching the switch solder pads, it can turn itself on or off.

I went through two of these things and both had the same behavior. I don't want to reverse engineer it, so I will likely just redesign the whole electronics.

Conair for Men Even Hair Cut Clipper turns on hours after cleaning it unplugged and power is off. Used a hair dryer to dry it and it turned off for a while. Any recommended solution?

thank you gerry bp. that works, and i agree, i have a wahl 9818L. experienced the exact issue. will not turn off after shaving with water. i removed the trianglular ON/OFF pad gently, ( if you remove on side and gently lift it up, you will not break the plastic clear switch away), then wipe the inside with a q-tip. press the on/off switch with a firm pointed object. it should turn off and then repeat for on.

i didn’t want to seal the switch but, i might have to place a breathable water resistant cover over the switch to prevent this from re-occuring. oh, i meant over the top of - not under the switch.

I haven't the slightest clue why. Must be something to do with the moisture on the switch and electrical conductivity. plugging it in and taking it out may override the connection. However, this is iffy, disassembling and re-assembling unit did not help either. seems that it will correct itself after drying out.

Thank You. I fixed mine, and you are correct. The micro contact system needs redesign.

how did u fix it?

How did you fix it? Dry it?

- de

so did it fix by drying or taking it apart what? I think if I take it apart I can clean off the on/off head

Mine died out then worked fine for over a month before turning on in the middle of the night by it self while in the cabinet. Scared the hell out of my wife since I sleep through anything. Now it will not go off after ruing for hours trying to wear down the battery

I’m throwing it out

So After using my Razor (The Philips Norelco 9000 model) I noticed that the on/off activator switch was not working. At first I thought it was broken but then, I came on here to this Website Ifixit.com and found some answers not everything but some Ideas. I was annoyed. I then decided to open it up realizing after reading @Jstanman’s comment about moisture that the moisture that got into the machine messes with the conductivity (those are his words). Here’s the plan:

Step 1: Open up your Philips Norelco 9,000 Preferably with a set of small 2.4 mm Flathead screwdrivers or just any old flathead screwdriver you can wedge in there. I managed to free it up a bit then just pry it open with my nails.

Step 2: Once you’ve got your Philips Norelco 9,000 open you’re going to want to grab a rag of some sort i used what is known as a microfiber cloth and dry off the inside! This is where you get to see the inside and I noticed just how flawless the inside is it’s fascinating and quite simplistic in design.

Step 3: Then just pop back on the backing and the on/off cover and your Philips Norelco should work!

I hope this helps! :-) Peace & Love,

Santino

Step 2.5: Sorry forgot to say please just set the backing to the side while you wipe off the inside of the Norelco. This will go back on of course after you've cleaned it off and bring the power on/off button cover back to into it's proper positioning as well.

I also had this issue, with a Wahl 7063-017 (face foil shaver) - bought from Amazon, 6 months old, well cared for, daily use.

I don't think it's a common problem as this is one of the few references on the web!

After 24 hours of not being used, for some strange reason my shaver just turned itself on, and ran for more than 1 hour till the battery was flat.

Had to return to Amazon for a refund.

Shame, as it was quite good, at an affordable price, and otherwise seemed well-built (with a long battery life).
