iMac will not accept and mount a CD in the CDROM drive

My iMac won't load a CD so I can make music discs for my car. I've had this problem intermittently in the past. After I upgraded to software previous to Yosemite I could not insert a disc into the CDROM drive if ITunes was open. If I closed iTunes, it would mount on the desktop and then I could open iTunes and burn a CD. I suspect Apple doesn't care about CDROM drives anymore because they aren't in the newer machines. I insert the CD into the drive and I get 4 or 5 buzzing sounds and then the disk ejects. I've repaired permissions and even reset the PRAM and I can't get it working. Anybody else experiencing this?

I have a Mid '11 iMac which is running the latest version of OS-X & iTunes. I just created an audio CD from my library without any problems.

Given the age of your system I think you have a dirty or bad burner.

It doesn't take much dust to mess you up here. How about getting a CD/DVD cleaning disk to try cleaning your drive. Otherwise I think you'll need to replace it, or get an external CD/DVD or even a Blu-Ray burner.

I think you are probably right Dan. Thank you so much for your advice. I'll try the cleaning disk first and then decide what to do if that doesn't work. Thanks again for your reply.
