I just brought an iPad from fb and I turned it on it says “iPad is disabled” so I tried connecting it to iTunes and it says “iTunes could not connects to the iPad “iPad” because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes.”

- de

1) Disconnect all cables from your device.

2) Hold down the Sleep/Wake button, then "slide to power off" to turn off your device.

3) Press and hold the Home button and plug the device into your computer.

Hold down the "Sleep/Wake" button on your iPad for a few seconds until a red slider appears. Slide it to shut down the iPad. Hold down the iPad's "Home" button and connect the sync cable to it while you are still holding the button. Don't release the "Home" button until you see a screen that says "Connect to iTunes."

Thank you so much, I’ve been unable to use my Ipad for months as I’m far away from an Apple Store. Tried all sorts of things, nothing worked. This fixed it in minutes. You’ve genuinely made my day.

Why you want to connect your iPad to iTunes? Are you trying to factory reset your iPad? If so, maybe you can use other tools to solve this problem:

icloud:

You can go to icloud and enter your Apple ID and passcode, then select the device you are using and choose to erase all data.

third-party software:

Some paid software such as joyoshare ipasscode unlocker can also help you bypass password on ipad.

Maybe you can solve the problem after trying the tools above.

Hello, if your iPad has become disabled, your only choice will be restore it to factory settings, it also means to completely erase the device.

If you’ve set up Find My iPad, then the easiest way to reset your iPad is through iCloud. Just log into iCloud.com and click Find My iPhone, choose your iPad and click the Erase iPad.

If you haven’t set up Find My iPad, but backed up your iPad wtih iTunes, then you can connect your iPad to the computer and restore iPad using iTunes.

If you don’t have an iTunes backup or disable Find My iPad, then you can try third-party tool like FoneGeek iOS System Recovery to unlock disabled iPad.

For detailed steps on how to fix disabled iPad via iCloud, iTunes and third-party tool, please refer to this guide: iPhone/iPad is disabled connect to iTunes.

Same Problem. I think you have to put the device in recovery mode first and then restore it from there.

Like Ferlito, my locked iPad was never synced to iTunes, so Texas Mac Man's instructions did not work. Apple gives the following instructions to completely restore your iPad (which will erase all contents):

* Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

  • Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
  • While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
  • Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
  • iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.
