a big bulky item was dropped on the laptop keyboard area and when it was shut down it would not turn back on how do i check

drg962, you 'll have to disassemble your laptop and visually check for damage. It is possible that just the port was dislodged, but it is also possible that the logic board was destroyed. Take a look and let us know what you find.
