Why is my Big Jambox not turning on?

My Jawbone Big Jamox has been working fine since I purchased it six months ago. A couple days ago I took it to the beach and it wouldn't turn on. I've charged it for 24 hours plugging it into my laptop and it doesn't change anything. Is my Jambox broken?

How long is the Manufactures Warranty?

Where to find a replacement battery for the Big Jambox?

If my battery is damaged my jaw does not turn on the charging light when I plug it in?

Who in the world will redo a potential dead battery for the small Jambox? Or should I just use that money and buy the Bose?!

Are we actually suffering with built in electronic obsolescence here with this fad product??

I have this problem, too. I notified them during my warranty but never received any type of response. Now my warranty had expired!

Mine stopped working altogether. No sign of life even with the power plugged in. I had tried the "reset" steps I found on the internet (holding big button down then plugging into power) and also a USB cable still with no lights or signs of life.

I disassembled it, unplugged the battery, plugged it into power without the battery and it worked. Then I unplugged the power, plugged the battery back in, and plugged it back into power. It fully charged in a couple of hours and the battery measured 12.58v (with no load) after it was fully charged. It works fine now.

I think the battery is probably three 18650's in series with a protection circuit.

How can I find instructions to follow your lead and disassemble? I'm having the same trouble - it is charged fully, but still won't turn on!

Thank you SO MUCH for this comment! I had exactly this same problem, and I was sure I needed a new battery, and I was about to take it all apart, and then I found YOUR solution of doing a reset!

IT WORKED!

Thank you so very much!

Have a Happy Fourth of July!

Thanks! Even though yours was too broken for it to work, I just got mine to come back to life by holding the big round button and plugging it in. Thanks for the tip!

Hi Abby! No need to fear, your Jambox is not broken and can be easily repaired. Because your device will not turn on, this leads me to believe me that you have either a battery or charger problem. First, try your chargers again. Charging via MicroUSB should take 2.5 hours, and 5-6 hours via wall charger. Charging is taking longer, your charger may be the problem and you will need to purchase a new charger.

If you have found that your chargers are not the source of the problem, you will need to take out the current battery and replace it with a new one. iFixit has a very useful guide on how to do this, found on the Big Jambox troubleshooting guide under “Jambox not fully charging”.

Hope this help, good luck and have fun at the beach!

Thanks iFixit! Turns out the charger wasn't the problem. You were right, it was a dud battery. I followed the battery replacement guide with no problem and have my tunes back!

The battery in the Jambox is an 11.1V 2600mAh Li-ion. Its wall charger output is 14.5V 2.48A. USB specifications will only allow 5.0 volts to had from that port, and very few laptops out there, aside from the high $ business class lappys, will allow for more than 1A to be had. Charging from a laptop will only charge the Jambox half way (from a dead battery) at best.

my charging port broke off and has damaged the board so that I am unable to re-solder. If I put 14.5V 2.48 amp charge thru the mini usb port by splicing an adapter, will it accept the full Volts/Amps that I am supplying? I assume that the board has surge/amp protection but if that protection is for both the wall and usb charger I figure that may go up to 14v...

Why not solder on a pigtail to charger port. USB port for firmware, you might want that. If you already cracked open case, replace battery. 18650"s about 5USD/ea, gives you fresh 300 charge lifespan just like original batt.

Resetting my Jambox worked. It did not take a long time to see the power red light to come on.
