My machine is in great shape but the processor is dying. Can I purchase and replace it with an off the shelf Intel chip of the same type and size? Repair shop wanted to sell me a logic board for $600 which is not worth doing on a machine of this vintage,

This machine is a Early 2009 iMac Intel 24" EMC 2111 2.93 core 2 Duo with 8 GB of 1067 MHz DDR3 Ram.
