There's no pram battery in the iBooks G3/G4. All the computer need is a charged battery to keep the time setting. You may configure your "Date & Time" system preference panel to keep this setting up to date via internet.

Agreed + there is a small capacitor on the motherboard that holds a charge to keep the date and time correct. It can go bad or simply discharge if the main battery goes dead.
