Processor replacement

I've used your website to fix 2 iBooks successfully and I am thinking about buying additional ones on ebay for parts and put one together. Can a processor be swapped out or is it included somewhere that can't be replaced? I don't see it as a choice on your repair options. Thanks! And can the light of the monitor screen (if it is dimmer than normal) be replaced as well? Not sure what allows or gives light to the LCD screen. Thanks! Trying to learn more.

Solución Elegida

The processors are pretty much soldered to the boards, so no, it's not practical. They are not plug-and-play at all. Plus, iBook G3 parts machines are so inexpensive these days, it makes more sense to just get the appropriate board, processor and all. And I don't know where you would get stand-alone processors to use for upgrades, even if the procedure was realistically possible.

Is the backlight dead on the screen that is dim, or is it just not as bright as you'd like? You've tried cranking up the brightness settings, I assume? If the backlight is dead, it could be the screen itself, the inverter cable, or the inverter...typically the inverter cable is the culprit. If it's just not as bright as you'd like, it's probably the screen itself, since they tend to vary a little.
