Installed screen and LCD in iPhone 3G, but now earpiece not working

I know the fix for a lot of people is to insert the headphones plug and remove a bunch of times, but that doesn't work. I think it must either be a connection that is bad, or the part that I installed was bad. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

WHen you make a call and you put the phone up to your face (or cover the phone with your hand) does the screen go black like it's supposed to? If not, and I had this exact thing happen to me, you will need a proximity cable replacement. That's the ribbon cable (#3) that's so annoying to put back together. Apparently it's pretty easy to screw that part up, particularly if the phone is powered on while you disassemble. The earpiece is also connected to that cable, and if the proximity sensor isn't working, nether then will the earpice. It wasn't too difficult to replace.

Yes, headphones are working, and it is definitely the earpiece (as opposed to the iPhone thinking that it is stuck in headphone mode) because when the iPod is on and I pull the headphones out, it pauses. So it knows when the headphones are in and out.

I changed the whole piece - the screen, digitizer, and LCD. Thanks for the link to the similar post. I'll try to reconnect connector #3.
