Power and Home Button No Longer Work On iPhone 5, Fixable?

My power and home button are no longer functioning. Volume works. I'm currently using the phone by plugging it in and out to access the unlock screen. Once in I use the accessibility option that adds a home button to the touchscreen. I'm wondering if anyone knows what the issue could be. Holding power and home does not work.

Would replacing the home button ribbon help? I don't see it since they both quit working at the same time. What binds the two together? Do they share a connector? Could it be a software issue? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

I have seen people with the same problem and it a component on the mother near the battery as broken off... Have u had the phone open recently?

The power button and the home button don't share any connections. If your home button is not working check the home button flex or the contacts on the dock connector. As for the power button, you will need to replace the power flex.

I'm not very knowledgeable on the inner workings of iphones, but I find it strange that the home button and the power button went out at exactly the same time if they don't share any connections. I can get by without a power button, but home button is needed. I ordered a new button and flex. I'm doubting that works though.

On another note. Any ideas on how to wake the phone without working buttons? Right now I have an alarm app silently alerting my phone every couple minutes. That way I can swipe and access my phone. At any given time I only have to wait a couple minutes if I need to use my phone. To say the least it's annoying.

In the iPhone 5 they are separate parts but there is a component on the motherboard that works the two.. Plug a charger in will wake the phone up..

Was the phone opened at any stage

Phone not opened until after the problem. So is it possible to buy another motherboard? Does the component have a name? Perhaps a picture so I can identify it? Plugging it in is a hassle for everyday use. I was hoping I could find another way to wake it. Also the motherboard is the logic board correct?
