SSD stops boot up

I've got three HDs on my Mac Pro 8 core, two are SATA drives with two different bootable OS installed. The third drive is an SSD( my main drive ). On random boot ups, the computer often stalls. if I pull the SSD, I can get it to boot. After several boot ups, I'll plug in the SSD and it'll boot up just fine. The SSD is a fairly new OWC 6G. That drive has all my authorizations and after it's able to boot up, it works flawlessly. I've re installed the OS ( Mountain Lion ) a few times already. Short of sending this back to OWC for testing, I wonder if anyone else has had this experience.

Please give us the last three figures of your serial number. Also the make and model of the SSD drive you have.

Regardless of which bay I use, the situation does not change. In order for me to get the following info, I had to remove the SSD so the computer would boot. I'll get a new battery today.

MacPro 8 core

MacPro 4,1

Serial number ( system ) G89082V720G

Serial number ( processor tray ) J593304AE1LUE

2.26 ghz, 2 processors, 8 cores

OWC Mercury EXTREME PRo 6G. SSD

480 GB

Try swapping the bay (slot number) of the SSD for a few days to a week. Go back into System Preferecnes:Startup Disk to select it after you make the change.

You might need a new RRAM battery... I think that might be why it randomly "forgets" which is the boot drive-that is if it's not a bay/connector issue.

If this Answer is helpful please remember to return and mark it Accepted.

I would run Disk Utilities on this drive before returning. Since the machine will not boot with the SSD installed and the drives are not hot swappable, I would boot the machine from the highest system you have installed on your hard drives. Then attach the SSD via USB using a n external carrier or a Universal Adapter and see if the drive can be repaired. Universal Drive Adapter

If your data and time are OK when you are disconnected from the internet, the battery is OK. To test, disconnect your ethernet cable and unplug the machine for five minutes, then plug the power back in and reboot and check the date and time.

Well today was interesting.....I tried so many different ways of getting this SSD working.....finally I booted holding the command/R and used Disc Utilities to repair the SSD volume. Interestingly and for the first time, the repair disc reported that it had fixed an error on the " bootloader" on that drive.....first time I'd seen that message. It didn't show up when using disc utilities from any of the other OS startup drives...only from the restore function on boot up. Apparently the bootloader has been an issue with other SSD drives in Mountain Lion. For grins, I shut it all down.....came back in an hour and started the computer....boots up fine using the SSD. I'm not 100% certain this fixed the problem but in 2-3 days from now if it all still works like it should, I'll be satisfied knowing the issue has been resolved. Much thanks to all for their input here.
