Trackpad "Depth" Sensitivity Screw Replacement

Hi Everyone,

Just ordered a batch of 10 A1342 top cases that arrived today for me to repair for a client.

However, these top cases didn't arrive with the "Sensitivity Screw" that controls the depth of the trackpad click (the trackpads weren't included either but I've swapped those before so this didn't present an issue)

Have swapped over the entire insides of 1 of these macbooks and everything is working perfectly apart from it won't recognise the clicks and the click is not very "crisp"

I have the magnetic screw from the old top case which I can remove quite easily - however it doesn't seem to fit back into the new case as flush as it was in the old one and therefore I can't get a decent "Click" depth and the mac won't recognise any clicks (but I can move the mouse just fine!)

The Magnet screw will not fit properly (See picture of screw here on far right side of image)

If the screw is being sold here as a separate part surely it is replaceable into the new top case?

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Kind Regards

Alex

Problem Solved!

It was a "Quality Control" issue - using a different screw in the other 9 cases I purchased worked fine, the sensitivity screw was able to be screwed "all the way in" and the trackpad clicked without any issues

Looks like just 1 for return instead of 10 then! :-)

I've run into slight differences with the knock off parts. Of course you seem to know what you're doing but it might help to look over the installation guide: MacBook Unibody Model A1342 Trackpad Replacement

I'd contact the supplier and see if they have any suggestions or if they provide the set screw that will work with their parts or can give you a hint on how to adjust or refine their parts. Thanks for the email. I, like you, make very little on parts. 5% discounts from suppliers just don't cut it. Yes that includes iFixit.

Thanks, I've followed the repair guide to the letter - think i'll be buying them with the trackpads in future, have emailed the supplier but will probably be waiting a while for a reply - I have 10 to repair by Monday and the clients already been waiting a long time , not to mention the small fortune the top cases cost me! (Getting harder to source)

Check your screw in a couple of the other boards to see if the problem is isolated or present in all of them. Also try a different screw. Are all the machines the same processor?

Please complete your profile, Mac pros are hard to find and we may have sources that can be mutually beneficial

Thanks , will complete my profile now. Just noticed as well that in this iFixit repair video the very last step shows her unscrewing this screw, so it HAS to be replaceable! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovuyKF53d...

Ok so this is now definitely related to the new top cases - the screw works fine in the original (broken) top case.

On the original top case the screw can be screwed in fully but on the new case it appears to stop halfway in and won't go any further?
