What is max memory on new MacBook Pro 17" Core i7
I know this was released just today but wondering if anyone knows how much max ram and what spec can it hold.

The 'Official' answer is 8gb, however I have 16gb in mine and it's just fine! I read around plenty on the internet and found a number of discussions where people had done this so I took the plunge and bought a kit specifically for my Early 2011 MBP 17" that had 2x8gb 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM modules in it and voila!

Andy - Not all of the MacBook Pro's can be upgraded beyond 8GB. Some have limits related to the architecture of the CPU and the memory controller. In others the firmware of system limits you.
Most people don't need more than 8 GB in their system. While its nice to have more, in a laptop that is intended to be used on the road more memory will shorten the run time of the system when on battery. So one does need to consider the Pro's 'n' Con's. At least see if the newer lower power modules will work in your system.
Exactly Dan, that's why I was specifically answering the question regarding the i7 MBP 17 and specifically quoted my own early 2011 MBP 17 as an example. Also the question was "how much max ram and what spec can it hold" and not "how much ram will I need if I go on the road with my laptop" you can't assume someones use of their own kit without further info. Clearly considering the "Pro's 'n' Con's" is essential.

Just to be clear here the OP system is this one: MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.66 17" Mid-2010 which can only go to 8 GB. Unlike yours: MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.2 17" Early 2011 which can go to 16 GB.
Hello I had a issue with my MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.2 17" Early 2011. Like Andy I searched and discovered that I could put 16 GB go up to 16GB. Which I did a few years ago. Everything was fine, the machine ran like a top, It did not heat up or act in any way strangely. The about a year ago I got a 3 beeps on start up and the MBP would not boot. 3 beeps meant Memory problems. I ended up removing one of the 8GB dimms and the MBP started up without ant problems (with 8 GB of RAM). I thought the RAM had gone bad, so I contacted Crucial and they promptly replaced the Dimm. When It arrived I put it in and got the same 3 Beeps! The machine will function is either dimm is in one of the slots, the front or bak does not seem to matter. But if both are installed I get the 3 beeps. I put the original RAM (2x2GB) and 3 beeps. The machine will only boot if there is one Dimm installed. Now I ran this MBP since 2012 with 16GB without any problem. Could this be a Logic board issue? I'm stumped and Do miss the extra RAM. Thx.
