DAvice, here is my answer from a similar question "You will of course have to totally disassemble the iPod. The dock connector is solder onto the board. You will have to do lots of soldering. You will have to un-solder two anchors and about 30 connections, they are very small and close to each other. So you have to take extra care not to shorten the pins out. After that you will have to resolder all those connections and the two anchors. Not an easy task, unless you are used to soldering small pieces. This video will give you an idea what you are up against. Hope this helps, good luck.

Use a heat gun to melt the solder and the old connector will Almost fall right off the board. Just tap it with a screwdriver when it starts to come loose. Before this, of course, remove the board from the iPod So you don't melt everything on the board.

My daughter has pictures stored on her ipod device. When changing the connector, will the pictures be lost? She didn't send the pictures to ipod cloud.
