Introducción
The Scion Panasonic PT546-00130 was standard equipment in many Scion cars. It worked with the car's harness to allow Bluetooth streaming, phone control and calls.
It can be installed simply in many old Toyotas, however, without the Scion harness attached Bluetooth will not be enabled. After much trial and error, I have found how to enable Bluetooth to stream music from your phone and control playback! This guide shows you how to hack the 28 pin harness connector by linking two pins. There is also a quick run-through guide of installing the unit in a Toyota Celica 2000!

The Unit detects the presence of the harness which connects the microphone necessary to make and receive calls and disables Bluetooth if the harness is unplugged or not present.

Whilst it is ensuring the microphone is plugged in, the detection has nothing to do with the microphone pins. Pin 6 SNS2 is documented as being at ground potential in the Scion harness troubleshooting. I found connecting SNS2 to the unit's body caused Bluetooth to be enabled! Its probably a "Sense" pin hence its name!

I had previously stripped the unit down to the PCB looking for clues. One thing I noted all grounds were common. I metered the closest ground pin: SGND to chassis ground: 0 Ohms!

So the fix is to solder a piece of wire between pin 6 SNS2 and pin 18 SGND as shown in picture 3! If you wanted to leave the connector unmolested you could strip the unit down and use mod wire/prototyping wire to connect pin 6 to ground on the back of the PCB and use wire tack to be neat. The radio cost me $50 from eBay, I was not that fussy!

How I modded it: I cut a short length of thin wire. I stripped and tinned both ends,(with solder). I bent the two pins outward and tinned them a little. Then I tacked the wire to one pin then the other. You may melt a bit of the plastic connector, ensure you clean your soldering iron after!

Pry up the cover around the door and window controls and pull the cover back revealing the lower retaining screws of the radio housing cover.

Remove the Three rotary knobs and the vent knob revealing the two screws shown in picture 2.

Unscrew all four screws, (note the bottom screws are thicker). The Cover will then pull off and you will just need to disconnect the clock connector at the top!

Remove the 10mm retaining bolts, pull the unit gently forwarded then unplug the two connectors and the antenna connector.

With the radio removed swap the mounting brackets to your Panasonic unit which you have already modded,(or not if you don't want Bluetooth ;) ). This is bested done with an 8mm socket but you can use a screwdriver. The brackets will fit snugly on the correct sides, if they don't ensue you have them the right way around before tightening!

To use the Scion/Panasonic radio receiver you will need an antenna adapter as shown in picture 3 to convert from the old coaxial style plug.

Plug the Unit in and slide it into place. Test It all works before bolting everything back together!

On your Phone ,once it is paired,(Press and hold the rotary know on the radio whilst it's powered off to get to the Bluetooth menu). Be sure to set it to stream only, as shown it picture 3! You don't want your calls going to a unit with no microphone! I use VLC and it pauses when a call comes in.
