Lenovo ThinkPad T490 Fan and Heat Sink Assembly Replacement

This guide covers how to replace the fan for the Lenovo ThinkPad T490. You should replace your laptop fan if you notice unusual noise, overheating and cooling problems. The fan in your laptop is essential because it is responsible for keeping the laptop cool, keeping up with performance, prevent overheating and maintaining your laptop lifespan. Before replacing your fan, you should backup your data and power off and unplug your computer.

Paso 1 Base Plate

Loosen the screws from the base plate.
Using a Philips #1 screwdriver fully loosen the six screws on the back cover.
These screws are captive - they will not fully come out after being unscrewed.

Paso 2

Once the screws have been loosened, start to remove the base plate.
Insert the iFixit opening tool into the space between the base plate and the chassis.
Glide the tool along the perimeter of the case in order to release the clips holding the case and chassis together.

Fully remove the base .
Grab the edge of the cover and lift the cover away from you.
There may be additional clips holding the cover in place. These remaining clips will release easily as you remove the cover.

Use a Philips #1 screwdriver to loosen the five captive screws that secure the heat sink.
These screws are captive - they will not fully come out after being unscrewed.

Paso 5

Disconnect the fan connector from its motherboard socket.

Gently lift the fan and heat sink assembly up and out of the chassis.
